Swine

Word of warning, this article may hurt sensibilities, so if you are easily offended or impressionable now would be a good time to stop reading.

It is safe to say that our beloved virtual world has become for many of us a second home -a first one for many others but then again all is good and valid here as long as you are not hurting anyone-, this pixel land of ours is the ground on which we quench each of our desires, meet our goals and become the people we really want to be, but RL limitations prevent us from being; then we turn to the internet -more specifically to SL- so we can unleash all of which we can be, the good and the bad.

Incest, S&M, pedophilia, bestiality, you name it, if it’s there it will most likely be done at least once -not personally speaking, there are areas on which I simply draw the line-. It is funny when a person from my generation -80s and early 90s- looks back at what we were and what we have become and where future generations are headed. I am glad I grew up in a time where there was no internet -or it was at least on the very early stages-, since it seems like it has brought out the worst of us, turning must of us into swine.

As of late whenever I go clubbing it all seems to be aimed at sex, and even though it would be one of our primal urges, it seems to be the driving force of way too many men -and women- in SL, what you wear, what music you play or request, what your overall appearance says about the person you want to be and the whole image, is literally who -deep down- you really are but are too afraid to be in RL for a long number of reasons, whatever they may be.

Most people seem to have found on the internet -or SL- the perfect ground to be bullies, harass lovers or ex lovers, stalk or criticize without the fear of being held responsible for it, because let’s be frank, it is the perfect venue for us to try everything, look at everything and voice our opinions about everyone and everything from the comfort and shield of anonymity it provides, with little -if any- repercussions on our day to day

I am far from writing this from a high horse or anything of the sort; I have done pretty awful things in SL and at the time I thought I was doing them for the right reasons, never mind who I hurt in the process -it was all a matter of satisfying me and my loved ones-, but then time goes by and you grow as a person, you become older and wiser and see that, like all things, sex is temporary and can only take you so far -if you make it the one thing that pushes you forward-; wouldn’t it be best to find a balance and try and see what can come out of us if we get to be a bit more constructive when it comes to our digital footprint?

When the time comes and I have to leave this world, either RL or SL I want future generations -even my two sons- to look at what I did and say, “he was here, he did it all and he learned something out of it”. Take it from me, feel free to experiment and try everything you feel compels you, but be aware that those you interact with -this being SL or facebook or anywhere else- are much like you, people with wishes, desires and feelings and SL is NOT a game, despite it may look like one, for a large number of us, it’s a part of us, sometimes the best part, this is after all where my husband and two sons live.

Spike, you’re reiterating something I’ve said over and over. The old adage holds firmly true in SL – Sex Sells. I noticed that years ago and there has been no signs of it stopping or even slowing down one iota. I have run across too many avi’s who’s sole purpose of coming into SL was for the sex alone.

I’ve done my share of sex in SL and yes it is true it sells but my main point being that as it dies out -the sex drive or impulse- we can also find other things to make us grow as a person. I have learned a lot about myself in SL

I had the opportunity today to spend some quality time with my best bud in SL today. It wasn’t about sex but just about being interested in what was doing. I appreciated the time he took to spend with me.
