Let it go

Frozen

modeled by Caiti Serrabella

Today after trying to avoid watching it with a good number of excuses and per my husbands insisting on how good it was -anything to get him to stop talking about it-, I decided to give “Frozen” a go while having lunch and find out what the fuss was all about. I must say I went into the movie completely expecting yet another Disney byproduct, with the same cliches and same recycled story-lines and I have to admit I was not only wrong but pleasantly surprised.

I won’t ruin the movie for you -in case you haven’t watched it yet- but I really do understand why the story has touched so many people at a personal level, myself included. Elsa represents a large number of us, forced to fit a canon and hide who she really is and to behave a certain way just to please society, some times even isolated since she can’t control everything she has inside, bursting to come out, until it does.

The odd thing is that, with all of the liberties a virtual life in second life gives you, most find themselves creating alts to experience that secret part of themselves their chosen close circle might frown upon; I have learned this last year a valuable life lesson and that was pretty much like Elsa, to let it go, stop living for others -in most cases people that are not even worth the sacrifice or extra effort- and just focus on those things that do matter and make me happy, in simple words, to be free.

Society will always have a “perfect” idea of who you are supposed to be and we will spend way too much valuable time trying to fit into that which is just not us, literally struggling with it; you are already perfect, just the way you were born and so was Elsa, she just needed to see it and embrace it. Humans beings are the only animals who spend their life worrying about the future, depressed about the past and not really focused on the present -which we miss-, whilst feeling inadequate.

I may not be everyone’s perfect idea of a companion, a friend, a sidekick or a partner, but those who really know me and are beside me, have not only come to love me -the real me- but support me as I do, in this long and complex path we call life. Anyone willing to be by your side and call themselves a part of your family -specially so in SL- will stand by you in good times and bad times and encourage you to be the best you can be, even at those times where hearing the truth hurts.

So be the best “you” one person could possibly be, stand out from the crowd, shine with your own light, everyone else is already taken.
