Worship

Browsing trough the internet today, I stumbled upon something that as a Buddhist and a human being, both made me gasp and chuckle at the same time, since it is on our firm belief that all faiths and beliefs have to be respected, even Satanists if you may. The thing that has surprised me the most is that not only the followers of this faith but the artist and promoters of the monument depicted, have taken advantage of the laws in Oklahoma to ensure that this is placed in government property, right in the middle of the bible belt.

Now we all have had the always heated debate about the separation of church and state -you really can have one without the other- but some more conservative areas in the US constantly lobby to force monuments like the one this statue will be a part of, namely the Ten Commandments, with the clear symbolism that the constitution itself and all local government laws in Oklahoma have a foundation in Christian law, which is simply absurd.

But then something wonderful happened in the land of the free and the home of the brave, the Satanist temple decided to start a fundraiser to build their own statue and have their opposing viewpoint to be part of the monument, and not only could they not be refused, but they managed to raise nearly 30000 $, and insurance on the bronce monument -which will include what you see in the picture, sitting on a throne with an inverted pentagram- is already in the not so distant planning, so the statue can be replaced as many times as needed -or as many as people manage to damage it-

Nevertheless, there is also others who oppose on having a religious monument -or one of religious significance for the matter- in front of the capitol and literally placed on government property, so a lawsuit has been placed by the ACLU against the 10 commandments monument as a whole, so The Baphomet, which will stand seven feet tall and be a testament to the glory of the Angel of the Bottomless Pit, would be placed directly beside the sculpture glorifying the laws given to Moses by the Christian God, might not stay there for too long, if the lawsuit wins and the monument is declared illegal and removed.

In my own personal opinion I think this is simply genius, if we allow freedom of speech and religion and even let it dictate the way the government functions and dictates laws -marriage equality for one-, then we must allow ALL religious viewpoints to be represented, even Satanists. This may be just the dramatic blow Christians need to finally step out of politics and let their restricted and narrow-minded beliefs continue on forcing the direction laws follow.

Most European Governments have a clear separation of State and Religion, and it is so for a reason; believe what you may, just don’t bring it into my government or workplace. I wonder how long will it take for something like this to be built in SL -I simply think is a wicked work of art that will send a very clear and powerful message-
