The Gunslinger culture

GunslingerI’ve always experienced the world and its different cultures as one would when visiting different planets; each one is completely alien from each other and has deeply engraved cultural nuances, due mostly to its history and background, which largely explains things that to others seem abhorrent, peculiar or simply incomprehensible; being an American myself but having spent most of my childhood and adult years hoping from country to country, I’ve had the privilege to be exposed to a wide array of point of views which has enabled me to see things happening “back home” from a very different perspective.

Americans have, as a rule a number of things that they regard as a constitutional right, gun possession, its lack of effective control and screening being the main topic of this article. I was never able to understand the reason behind guns always being so accessible to so many and why a large number of the population will get incredibly worked up when even suggesting stricter protocols for gun possession.

How many more cinemas, schools and colleges have to be attacked and what number of innocent bystanders have to die under the hands of a psychotic for someone in charge to actually do something about this? What good is it for our society the lone fact that we can have a weapon “to defend ourselves” as our constitutional right when literally anyone can get one and use it at its own leisure -or in some cases lack of good judgement-?

It seems that only a massive tragedy will cause the desired effect in society for stricter gun screenings to take effect? The reason behind this article is the fact that while at work today, reading the news I stumbled upon an old article on the Newton shootings and my heart simply sank remembering that someone’s babies and relatives working at that elementary school were taken from us a little too soon, because a psycho chose to use guns to end lives.

Enough is enough, demand a plan, demand change. People like myself are not asking for guns to be entirely removed, but a for stricter gun control and screenings to take into effect… even cars have a number of screenings and risk assessment tests before you are even granted a license, then why is it easier to get a hold of a gun then to drive a car? isn’t the risk it poses towards human lives 10 times greater?

Join like I did, the movement “everytown for gun safety” by clicking the following link. http://every.tw/1q7VRZh. More than 2 million Americans have joined the movement to end gun violence, isn’t it time you made your voice heard too?
