The term unapologetic defines a person who refuses to admit or say they are sorry, admitting nor showing any regrets and despite the fact the adjective itself can have negative connotations, it can be used positively to reinforce a system of beliefs or actions, say for example an unapologetic activist on any front, proud to stand for their beliefs or be held accountable for their actions.
This weekend having faced yet again just recently a number of changes in my life -and about to make some life altering choices in second life as well-, I decided to spend some time meditating -as we Buddhists often do- getting some retrospection on all things that have happened during my four years and a half in second life and making a list of things I regret.
When it came down to it, the list was amazingly short and all things I’ve done and people I’ve befriended have taught me valuable life lessons, that I have applied to my real life interaction with those around me. When my family and close friends needed me the most, I took matters into my own hands and got us all out of a very bad situation, starting from scratch and giving people what I thought at the time they wanted, but as months and years went by I realized that most of the time people don’t plan very far ahead, and something you may want now doesn’t necessarily mean that you will stick to it for the long haul, and that’s ok; some have referred to these times as doing second life “wrong” which has truly made me chuckle.
People come and go, families in SL grow or loose family members, due to the fact that they weren’t much your family to begin with, their interest shifts or simply because life takes them away -as it often does- and all you can do is move forward and carry on with those worth sticking with. Buddhism has opened my heart and my mind to so many things, and has taught me to let go of grudges, let go of the past and simply use it as a reference, while taking life and everything it brings, one day at a time; this is something I am very much grateful for, I think I am a more grounded and centered human being, able to love and wish well to others -even if they don’t like me-
So you can consider me unapologetic and with no regrets, simply because I regret nothing and I am not sorry for anything I’ve done. mainly because it has brought me to the point were I am at, and there are exciting times ahead; I truly can’t wait to see what life brings and unwrap it like a Christmas present, either good or bad I’ll welcome it and learn from it.
