Sex and Second Life

Profile, Profile, PROFILE

profileWe all have faced this issue once or twice, when initially talking to someone during a party or a public place and they casually start a conversation with a comment such as “interesting profile” or a casual comment about the information you have put there for the world to read; this is always appreciated and truly shows you that the person is following a simple profile etiquette I firmly believe all users in virtual worlds should follow.

So here’s a simple guideline of what I believe on how much of the profile you should bring to the conversation without coming across as a stalker, because believe it or not paying close attention to every single detail on it and bringing it up will not always work on your favor; you have to cherry pick the information useful to you depending of the circumstances and the conversation and go from there.

1. If you are talking to a content creator or discussing business with a fellow secondlife user formerly unknown to you, you seriously do not need to bring up their love for kitty cats, breedables or any other hobbies in their picks not relevant to the conversation, whilst ignoring the fact for example that they do not accept notecards or will only respond to emails, this is a moot point and makes your effort on actually reading their profile, invalid.

2. When clubbing, if you find this cute guy -or girl- that totally has the looks and attributes you are looking for in a quick shag, using personal information is fine and more than welcome, as a little foreplay and flirting will go a long way, specially if you find you two have things in common; do pay close attention if they are partnered and if they are and you find them responsive, inquire -if not SPECIFICALLY listed or shown- if they are in an open relationship and triple check your surroundings to make sure their partner is not on the club or sim, I seriously had this happen to me just this morning and the fact I had to point out the fact my partner was dancing not two feet from me, made the fact of him mentioning he had “read” my profile, come across as a lie -boys and girls, skimming through a profile looking for naked pics or sexual preferences is definitely NOT reading-

3. Last but not least, the very few bloodlines active users still out there obsessed with soul hoarding and poaching, check the groups, read the picks before you even try -and no, scanning a person is not a good start, the actual profile should be- Most users in active clans out there have been around each other so long they see each other as family, so get the whole picture together before you even try.

And for those not paying enough attention to their profiles or even including the most basic of stats keep in mind that the profile is -or at least should be- an average person’s first contact with your life, any information that you provide or forget to, will most definitely affect the course of a conversation one way or another.
