Inbox me

InboxAbout a month ago I heard this hype buzzing around social networks from people with very early release access to google’s newest effort to stay ahead of the app game with “Inbox”, something described as most of the few fortunate to “essential”, “addictive” and “the next generation of email organizing”. The thing that has made thousands of avid users feel both curious and willing to give this new thing a try is the fact that it has very positive reviews from those who have used it and on its very early stages it can only be accessed via invites -much like it was the case of spotify among others-

So I proceeded to download the app from the android store and see if I could give it a try without the infamous invite, something that was impossible -yes you are free to download it but it won’t allow it to sign in with your gmail account unless you have been invited to do so-; so I proceeded to contact gmail for an invite and patiently waited, to be greeted shortly afterwards -3 working days- with an invite to Inbox, which was already installed in my phone.

shot_2014-11-10_20-38-45The only way I can properly describe inbox as an email / google / google+ integrated application is simply “an OCD tool for the lazy”, after a few days on my phone it has become quite an essential part of my daily routine, both in SL and RL, allowing me to have all of my important information properly categorized and divided on its own or customize it with just a few swipes. What makes Inbox such an easy to use and practical tool is it’s ability to organise your email, reminders, google+, notifications on a very intuitive interface -it does come with an initial tutorial pointing out where everything is- which is not only incredibly fast and almost lag-free and I am sure to predict this will shortly be the way emails are handled but will render the old gmail apps obsolete as soon as Inbox is made public.

Composing and email, forwarding invites or sending an email to your 3 last contacts -which the app is also able to remember for you- is done by the simple touch at the bottom right of the expandable plus button and when doing a quick swipe from the left you are able to access a menu with not only your google+ profile, but most of your email, travel details, payment profiles linked to your email and so on, neatly categorized and easy to find as you scroll down -in case you missed it on your main screen, it also happens to be there as well-

I am sure google will make this new addition to the google family an important part of their future releases on android phones and tablets; if you truly cannot wait to give this app a try, ask one of your friends if they are already using it and get them to invite you or ask google directly for an invite, which they will try and process as quickly as possible. I truly could not understand whatall the hype and excitement was all about, but inbox has very quickly become a tool I have come to trust while on the go or at home -since it also has a PC and mac version-

To download and patiently wait for your invite you can do this at Google Play -for androids- or get further information at their main page http://www.google.com/inbox/

The only downside of it, is the fact that only allows you to check on email account a time, which you can easily swap back and forth from the top -which seems like an annoyance if like me, you just love having everything as simplified as possible- and understandably, only works -for the time being- with gmail accounts, but time will tell if goggle will enhance this feature to include other clients, when it finally goes public.
