Sex and Second Life

Sin

Original Sin

What is the true definition of Sin and how does it affect our lives? it is defined as any act regarded as such a transgression, especially a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle, it can also be considered any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; namely any great fault or offense.

The issue being that if you are not a religious person, what moral compass do you guide your actions with? sin itself becomes a blurred line guided only by your personal experiences and empathy, so when it applies to SL, are we more lenient to indulge in our more basic instincts based on the fact that it IS a “secondlife” after all and therefore with a different onset of moral rules?

Relationships work differently and those who have been known to be in a long standing successful one, start from the fact of being open and based on solid friendships -something that simply would not work in RL, fetishes are also intensified and people are more permissive with all sorts of kinks, this including bestiality to name a few; Sin itself seems to be ever present in our daily lives in SL, taunting and encouraging us into indulgence.

I was discussing this with a few friends at home the other day and later within the weekend I went to a party which was centered around the 7 deadly sins, which made me wonder about this very topic and want to share my input on the page; one of the most popular ones in SL apart from lust I would say is pride coming in a very close second, and the reasoning behind this is simply because it is a user created environment, everything we surround ourselves with it’s an extension of our persona and your looks translate in social success -or you could say the prettier you are, the better-.

Pride takes a whole other level if you somehow manage to get your name “out there” -now even further thanks to social platforms- and I have personally witnessed former good friends, experience some form of social or “career” success in SL to slowly devolve into SLbrities -i.e SL celebrities-, self appointed kings & queens of such and such house, running in cliques like “The Plastics” -remember them?- and enunciating the infamous phrase “do you know who I am?” whenever they demand some form of special treatment.

My journey in SL, my set of beliefs as a Buddhist and my personal experience within SL and in RL have taught me one thing, impermanence is a constant in our lives, not even your “looks” in SL will last forever, as they eventually will become outdated, so keep it real and keep it simple, indulge if you must but keep always present that the one thing you are bragging about today will most likely and surely not be there tomorrow, which will simply turn you in a sad and delusional has-been.

I rather keep my feet safely in the ground, whether I choose to indulge in my sin or not, at least by keeping it real I can see what direction I am taking and where I came from, without any need of approval or praise from anyone, which in a virtual world is as relevant and useful as monopoly money.

I would like to thanks to my good friend Caiti and her blog Dolly Fabulosity for posing with me and doing a joint post of our awesome new looks, for styling on the picture above head over to her blog!
