Traffic

TrafficAfter a while away switching jobs in RL and humoring other SL activities -namely opening a new shop just in time to sponsor GA Summerfest-, submitting articles for both Bright Metallic and SLGoth-, which has kept me somewhat busy I somehow have found the time again today to sit down and write a new blog post for all of you out there following my comings and goings and various musings.

Cooperating side by side with other GA members and sponsors in preparation for Summerfest has somewhat reminded me on the many reasons I decided around a year ago, to live a more secluded and private SL, on one hand due to time constraints that no longer allow me to give SL my full attention and on the other hand obeying my growing dislike for personal agendas and half truths some tend to transfer to the platform from their RL.

As a blogger -not a fashion blogger, not a reporter but someone who finds pleasure in writing- I am amazed as each day goes by, on how much of a voice the internet and blogging has given to many people out there, who like me feel they have something to say, and I always take time and an interest in any blogs worth following that I feel have something to teach me, but as in all things is not all constructive out there and there are people whose sole interest is to boost their ego and traffic -namely getting as many hits as possible on their blog by any means necessary-, which is in short tabloid practices.

I am not going to make this post about names like I said earlier, this is just my point of view and some will argue that there are no specific rules when it comes to blogging on the internet and you as an individual are free to do as you please -which is also a fact- and people in general are free to click on your link or not. I have seen and read a lot of dirt concerning many SL users posted online for the world to see and let us be reminded that posting online is like peeing in a pool, once it’s posted there is no taking it back.

There should be a line that we might consider not crossing just to boost our traffic -sharing emails, chat logs, dropping names, mixing gossip with facts to make them sound truthful- and doing all of this at the most opportune times just ensure that you are getting as much attention as possible regardless of who you hurt -or whose hard work you do- in the process, because in the end all is fair and valid in blogging if it concerns a traffic boost.

I must stress these are just my thoughts on general blogging etiquette and journalism ethics, if you are somewhat involved with an individual or organisation and use that to trash them in your blog at any chance you get, you are nothing better than a two faced cheap prostitute, the difference being that instead of selling your services for money, you are doing it for the traffic, in the remote hope that this will boost your ego.

I prefer minding my own business and not having to explain what I post to anyone, then again, that’s just me.
