Sex and Second Life

The year of Wonder Woman

It has taken 76 years, but Wonder Woman has finally had a stand alone movie and it is a very big deal, specially since the movie seems to be doing well with critics and cinema goers alike, proving once and for all that not only does she rule as a character, but a hero can kick ass, regardless of gender, more so in an industry dominated by male super heroes.

The amazon warrior princess became a pop culture reference icon, when it was brought to the small screen in the campy 70’s version by our beloved Linda Carter and as cringe worthy as it may be when you look back at the show now, most of us in my generation grew up either wanting to be Wonder Woman or fixated by her beauty and strength.

Her creator was Charles Moulton an American psychologist, inventor, and comic book writer who created the character. Two women, his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne (who lived with the couple in an extended relationship), both greatly influenced Wonder Woman’s creation, from her personality, to her lasso or truth, which was directly linked to their love for BDSM.

But over the decades and across generations, she has gone through many changes which have enriched her personality and has made her a icon for everything she represents, power, truth and strength.

This movie has been long owed to us, the fans, who grew up enamored by Diana and her values, either in comic book form or on TV; she who represents everything that is good in the world (and this for a DC character is what makes her stand out). I am delighted Diana is back in the spotlight, because this means we will pass her on to a new generation of girls and boys who will get to love her as much as we do.

Welcome back Diana
